Today the doctors went on strike again, so I hung out in the Los Andes emergency room instead. It has 2 beds in the front room, and 2 beds in the back… That’s it! There wasn’t a lot going on, but I did get to help cast a 1 month old boy with club feet. I think it would have been down as an outpatient but the mom brought her baby in because of the strike. No fancy fiberglass wraps here—we did it the old fashioned way using plaster bandages dipped in water. The attending said intoxications – particularly organophosphates – make up a large percentage of presentations here, but he does see all types of other problems as well.
